Terms of Use

This site summarises prices that insurers and hospitals publish in their own files, as federal rules require. Using it means agreeing to the terms below. In effect since 2026-10-19.

What the site is

Every figure here comes from a file an insurer publishes under the Transparency in Coverage rule or a hospital publishes under the Hospital Price Transparency rule. The site reads those files, keeps the prices for a list of common procedures, and shows them summarised by state and county, with the hospital’s own figures on the hospital pages and, on the Ohio transparency page, each insurer’s published rate at named hospitals and surgery centers. The work of reading, checking and summarising the files is the site’s; the prices are the publishers’.

What you may do

You may read the pages, use the figures to compare prices, and quote or cite them — in a conversation, an article, a complaint, a study — naming this site as where you found them. Search engines and answer engines are welcome to read the pages (see llms.txt) so that they can answer a person’s question from them.

What you may not do

You may not copy the site’s figures systematically — by scraping, crawling or any other automated means — to build a dataset, a product or a service of your own, or re-publish them as a dataset, whether or not the site is credited, without written permission. You may not present the figures as your own work, remove the notes that say what each figure is and is not, or use the contact and data-request forms for anything but their purpose. The underlying files are public: anyone is free to read them from the publishers themselves.

What the figures are not

They are not a bill, a quote or a promise. A negotiated rate is what an insurer has agreed to pay; what a patient owes depends on their plan’s deductible, copay and coinsurance, on whether the provider is in network, and on what is done on the day. A hospital’s cash price may carry conditions the hospital’s own page explains. Nothing here is medical, legal or financial advice. Before deciding anything on a price, confirm it with the provider and the insurer.

No warranty

The figures are shown as the publishers published them, read by software that can misread and from files that can be wrong, incomplete or out of date; each insurer’s and state’s page says what its files leave out. The site is provided as is, with no warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for any purpose, and its operator is not liable for any decision taken on it or any loss arising from its use. Where a figure looks wrong, please say so with the form in the footer — corrections are welcome.

Privacy

The site sets no cookies of its own and keeps no account of who reads it. What you type into the contact or data-request form is stored by the form service (Netlify) and read only to answer you. The site is hosted by Netlify, whose servers keep the ordinary access logs of any website.

Changes and contact

These terms may change; the date at the top says when they last did. Questions and requests, including permission to re-use the figures, go through the contact form in the footer.

Get in touch

Corrections are welcome — these prices come straight from insurers' and hospitals' own files, and if one looks wrong it is worth knowing about.

Request a data file

Tell us what you need and we will send you a CSV file — it opens straight in Excel or Google Sheets, one row per price, with plain column names. No technical skills needed.
